Burning Questions Answered Here

WHY SHOULD I JOIN A CLUB?

Riding with a club is great fun brings many benefits!
Club riding is a great way to ride socially and meet new people. You will also find that riding with a club means that you progress your riding, as your new friends will help you explore the world of cycling in ways you have never before considered, or you will explore new routes around the area.
The club will also provide you with many sources of information on many topics, from maintaining your bike, cycling events, different cycling disciplines and training.

DO YOU HAVE MANY WOMEN IN THE CLUB?

Yes! We have a good number of women riders in the club, but we are always looking to recruit more female numbers.
Cycling has in the past been seen as a male dominated sport but this has and is changing very quickly. We now have a good number of women riders who regularly join us on club rides.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE?

The club is starting up a junior section which will specifically cater for all ages from toddler to 18. However, in the meantime we welcome junior riders to join us on our regular club rides, but riders need to be 10 or over. Please contact the club if you would like to have a chat about which rides might be suitable for younger riders.

Young riders:

  • Under 10 - riders will be restricted to the off-road sessions with the junior/youth section of the club

  • 10-16 years old, will need to ride on the road with a responsible adult (parent/carer or other rider as agreed by the parent/guardian)

  • 16-18 years old, will need to ride with the written consent of their parent/guardian.

WILL I BE ABLE TO KEEP UP?

We have a number of different groups within the club which cater for all abilities. So, if your looking for a leisurely ride through the lanes of Monmouthshire, or a fast group ride, we will have a group which suits you. The recreational rides are a great place for anybody to start. You can then see how you go, and move groups as you progress.

We ride as a club, so we will not leave anybody behind. We all climb the hills at different paces, so we stop to catch our breath and regroup at the top. For those who like to really push themselves, on some of the faster types of training rides this rule might be amended!

IS MY BIKE GOOD ENOUGH?

If you're just starting out and want to join a club recreational ride, then any serviceable bike is likely to be absolutely fine! But feel free to ask, we'll be more than happy to advise. We would definitely recommend doing a few rides, or talk to us before you might invest in a new bike though. There are so many types of bike available to chose from, it's always best to consider you future requirements.

HOW DO I JOIN?

We hope you like the sound of our club! If you would like to join us then get in touch! Memberships are annual and are purchased through the British Cycling website. It costs a mere £20 for annual membership (plus £1 for British Cycling Admin fee) which we think is great value. For the cost of a night out, you can get a whole year of cycling camaraderie and get to see the best bits of the Wye Valley!
