We would like to invite you to join us on the second CCC Historic Ride

The ride commemorates the exploits of the original Chepstow Cycling Club, who raced on Ordinary Bicycles (aka Penny Farthings) from Beachley Point to a turn on the A466 north of Llancloudy and back.

Our route has been amended slightly to make the start more practical, and to avoid road closures on the A466, but still captures the spirit and some of the challenge of the original route - even more so if you choose to ride it on an Ordinary!

There are two route options: a longer route at 80km / 50 miles, and a shorter one at 50km / 32 miles. Both start from the Chepstow Leisure Centre, heading out along the Itton road, through Trellech, Mitchel Troy, to Monmouth. The longer route takes a loop north of Monmouth to Rockfield, Newcastle, Skenfrith, Llancloudy and back to rejoin the shorter route at Monmouth. Both routes head from Monmouth south to Redbrook, then up to Newland, Clearwell, St Briavels, before descending back to Tutshill to finish at Toast.

There will be a feed stop with cakes, water and coffee at Monmouth on the common land on the right hand side of the route between Granville Street and the A40 underpass. Please note that riders will need to dismount along this section as this is a footpath. Riders can re-mount after the underpass at the point of rejoining the A466 just before the Wye Bridge. This feed stop is at roughly two-thirds distance for the long route and half distance for the short route.

Route files are available on the CCC Ride with GPS account that you can download, and/or use to print cue sheets. Links are below. Direction arrows will be posted at key points along the route to assist navigation.

Refreshments will be available at Toast for riders and family members / children, as follows:

Riders (CCC Members £10, non-members £12)

Baguette with choice of fillings, Cake (a tray bake of some kind various choices available) crisps and or nuts and endless tea and coffee

Family members (£6)

Cream teas (includes Large Scone Clotted Cream and Jam with endless Tea or Coffee)

Children (£2)

Gingerbread man and refillable squash

Because of the need to give numbers for catering, and plan the logistics of the ride, the event is advance tickets only, there will be no entry on the day. Tickets can be bought via the CCC website up until 10:00 on Saturday 18th May, after which entries will be closed.

Riders will start in discrete groups between 10:00 and 11:30, in order to have manageable size groups on the road and have riders finishing at similar times. Riders will be allocated to groups after entries have closed, and the groups and start times will be published in the week preceding the ride.
